On the 1st of September 2022, the UCFM tower came alive with excitement and anticipation as the Rotaract Club of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, held its grand fifth installation ceremony. The event marked the official induction of the newly elected president, Rtr. Deedat Safeer, and the entire board of Vice Presidents and directors.
Amidst an atmosphere of joy and celebration, the outgoing president, Rtr. Afrah Niyas, handed over the reins of leadership to the newly elected president, Rtr. Deedat Safeer. A symbolic moment that signified the beginning of a new chapter for the club.
The newly elected president took the stage and presented appointment letters to the dedicated board members, including directors, who would play key roles in the club’s activities and initiatives throughout the year. These individuals were chosen for their passion, commitment, and ability to inspire positive change within the community.
The ceremony was graced by esteemed guests who delivered inspiring speeches. Among them were District Rotaract Representative, Rtr. PP. Ahamed Hussain, District Rotaract Chair, Rtn PP Farzan Khan, Youth Services Chair, Rtn PP Paul Harris Fellow Marshad Barry, and the Chief Guest, Prof. Vidyajothi Vajira Dissanyake, the dean of FOM UOC. Their words resonated with the audience, highlighting the importance of leadership, service, and the impact of Rotaract in society.
To add an element of entertainment, an engaging performance captivated the audience, leaving them with smiles and memories to cherish. As a token of appreciation, tokens were distributed to express gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the installation ceremony.
The event was made even more special with the presence of Rotaract clubs from various institutions. Clubs such as the Rotaract Club of Informatics Institute of Technology, Rotaract Club of NIBM, Rotaract Club of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, Rotaract Club of University of Colombo, Faculty of Management and Finance, Rotaract Club of Colombo Central, Rotaract Club of PanColombo, Rotaract Club of Wellawatte, Rotaract Club of ICBT, Rotaract Club of Colombo West, Rotaract Club of Centennial United, Rotaract Club of Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, Rotaract Club of University of Colombo, Faculty of Arts, Rotaract Club of Imperial College of Business Studies, and Rotaract Club of Singer Sri Lanka added a vibrant and united spirit to the occasion.
The District Steering Committee, consisting of dedicated members such as Ahamed Hussain (District Rotaract Representative), Sathma Jayasinghe (District Rotaract Representative Elect), Danica Harding (Rotaract District Secretary), Nimesha Jayamanne (Assistant District Rotaract Representative), Basharath Isamath (Joint Director – Club Service), Sanjana Wanigasekara (Director – Public Relations), Praneeth Madusanka (Director – Public Relations), and Lochana Bandara (Joint Director – Sports & Recreational Activities), contributed their expertise and guidance to make the ceremony a resounding success.
The 5th Installation Ceremony left a lasting impact, setting the stage for a year filled with purposeful action, impactful projects, and strengthened bonds within the Rotaract community. The short-term outcome of installing the new president and board was realized, and the long-term objective of fostering meaningful connections within the network was reinforced.
